Statement strongly protesting the launching of missiles by North Korea |

 |
On July 5, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Hatoyama issued the following statement:
Since early this morning, North Korea (as of July 5, am) has launched 6 missiles in succession, and the majority of these seem to have landed in the Japan Sea. The Japanese government has announced that the third missile to be launched appears to have been a Taepodong 2. Considering that Japan and the rest of the international community have been calling for self-restraint since the possibility of a missile launch was raised, we strongly protest this highhanded launching of missiles in defiance of international concerns. North Korea has declared a moratorium on missile launches since 2003, in the 2002 Pyongyang Declaration and elsewhere. Not only do [the launches] go against the Declaration but this is an extremely grave situation for the safety of the region.
